4.01 Sprinkler Design Standard for Increasing the Allowable Number of Stories in R-1 and R-2 Occupancies

Reference: 2007 C.B.C. Section 504

This bulletin is issued to clarify California State Building Code Section 504. This section allows an increase of one story if the building is provided with an approved automatic sprinkler system throughout in accordance with section 903.3.1.1. The Standard for installation of the sprinkler system is N.F.P.A. 13. N.F.P.A. 13R is not allowed to be used as the Standard to increase the allowable number of stories of a building.
