3.07 Fire Alarm Notification Devices

Reference: 2007 C.F.C. Sections 907.16and 907.17 & 2002 NFPA 72

This document is written to assist the design community meet the requirements of NFPA 72, 2002 edition, section 7.4. This is the San Francisco Fire Department interpretation regarding fire alarm notification devices.
Existing fire alarm systems may be upgraded provided all notification devices alert occupants using the same alarm sound in the area served by the fire alarm system. Plans submitted should indicate all existing and new fire alarm devices. Upgrading of all existing devices to the current code and standard requirements is not required.
