2.09 Underground Pipe Detail Plan SubmittalReference: NFPA 13, 2002 edition, Chapters 10 and 14, NFPA 24, 2002 edition, Sections 10.4 and 10.6
Sprinkler plans shall provide underground pipe details showing new underground fire service or mains that include:
1. Size of underground pipe, including pipe material and fitting being used.
2. If the pipe joints are not restraint joints and thrust blocks are required, provide thrust block size/bearing area based on what type of soil.
3. Depth of cover for the underground pipe and how much the clearance is between top of pipe and concrete sidewalk slab or roadway pavement. Also see SFFD Administrative Bulletin 4.08, Design Criteria for Installation of Underground Piping for Fire Sprinkler Service.
4. Fire Hydrant installation detail if new hydrant is being installed, or relocated. The fire department water supply supervisor should be contacted at (415) 558-3557 prior to any work being performed on the fire hydrant system.
5. Lengths of underground pipe from city main to building and/or main building riser.
6. Name of street city main is under and size of city main.
